Our Library - November 2009 update

After three years in storage, the LNHS Library is now installed in the new Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity located in the new Darwin Centre at the Natural History Museum.

Our library is available for reference by both members of the LNHS and the general public. There is shelving space for about half of the collection, and so we have put all the books out on the open shelves, while the periodicals, with the exception of the Society’s own, remain in store. Complete runs of the Society's own periodicals (The London Naturalist and London Bird Report) are available for reference.

We hope during the course of the next few months to edit the collection of books, dispose of some outdated works, and make room for more periodicals. We still have to make arrangements for lending books to members, and any member who needs to borrow a specific work should contact the Librarian, Linda Hewitt, on 020 7727 8206.

The staff at the Centre are setting up a new venture which will offer access to UK specimen collections, an identification and advisory service, and free visitor space for your own study; as well as citizen science projects (like OPAL) and workshop courses.

The whole project still has a lot of experimental features, and it will be a few months before we have all the organisational details settled. The Angela Marmont Centre is on the lower ground floor of the Darwin Centre.
